Invitation from the President 2022-23

Greetings to all Acurilians, information professionals, exhibitors and friends:

I extend a warm greeting to you as president of the Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL) 2022-2023.

It is with great pleasure and honor that I invite all librarians, archivists, museum personnel, information specialists, exhibitors and other information professionals to join the celebration of the 52nd Annual  Conference under the theme Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges in Libraries, Museums and Archives of the Caribbean. The celebration of this important event will take place from June 4-8, 2023 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on the beautiful island of Jamaica.

The theme of the conference responds to the important challenges that affect the way of living, working and communicating in various trades in our society today. The goal is to examine and discuss the current challenges of libraries in the Caribbean, unearth and debate the new trends in the information world that would counteract some of these challenges and to forge a new direction for the future of our libraries and information institutions. Likewise, it seeks to identify the necessary changes to help move them towards proactive actions that will allow them to incorporate new roles and respond to the needs that society demands without losing the essence that has always characterized them.

The Local Organizing Committee in Jamaica is actively organizing the event to host a successful conference, therefore I look forward to your support and participation in the 2023 ACURIL conference. It will be an honor for me to personally greet you in Jamaica.

Cordially,

David Drysdale

Organizing Committee Invitation Letter

Welcome from the Local Organizing Committee

On behalf of all library and information workers in Jamaica, I look forward to welcoming you to Jamaica for the fifty-second staging of the Annual Conference of ACURIL at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston from June 4- 8, 2023.

The theme chosen by ACURIL President David Drysdale for this year’s conference is Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges in Libraries, Museums and Archives of the Caribbean, and I invite you to join us as we explore strategies to navigate the rapidly changing information landscape of a post COVID-19 world.

It has been some time since the ACURIL Community has been able to gather in person since many of us were unable to attend the conference in Curacao due to ongoing covid restrictions and other repercussions from the pandemic. We hope that this year, three years since the start of the pandemic, that many of you will be able to join us, to renew existing friendships and forge new relationships while learning from each other to explore opportunities, devise solutions to common challenges and share solutions to the challenges that we face in our respective institutions and organizations as Caribbean librarians and information professionals!

The members of the Local Organizing Committee are working tirelessly to make this conference a rewarding and memorable experience for all attendees, and we look forward to welcoming you to Jamaica. Until then, in the words of Jamaica patois “walk good” and I’ll see you in June!

Warm Regards,

Adele Merritt Bernard
